Rutgers pushes for Asian American studies program

Protestors chanting “We are Asian-Americans, we will not stop the fight,” last week on the College Avenue campus were heard in School of Arts and Sciences Executive Dean Douglas Greenberg’s office, but were not greeted with a desirable response.
The march on December 7 to Greenberg’s office on 77 Hamilton St. was part of the Asian American Leadership Cabinet’s ongoing initiative for an Asian-American studies program at the University.
Greenberg said he recognizes the protestors’ concerns, but can only do so much under financial pressures.

Princeton students want AA program

With the support of various Asian-American student organizations, faculty and alumni, a group of students is working to establish an Asian-American studies certificate program at the University.
Charles Du ’13 and Tara Ohrtman ’13 are currently spearheading an effort to raise awareness about Asian-American studies to show the administration that students are interested in related issues.

UIC Receives $2 Million for Asian American Students Initiative

The University of Illinois at Chicago has received a five-year, $2 million grant to support recruitment, retention and graduation of Asian American and Pacific Islander students.
The grant, from the U.S. Department of Education’s Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution program, will fund academic and writing skills development, college preparation, career advancement and financial aid.

Cheating Oneself

I was sorry to read, in asiancemagazine.com, of which I am very fond, some college student commenters defending the practice of buying term papers and passing them off as their own. Not only does that cheat the institution they attend, it cheats the other students and cheats the cheater himself. Let me explain.
