Chinese medicine could treat Parkinson's disease

Chinese medicine may be effective in battling certain symptoms of Parkinson's disease, and lessening side effects from the drugs used to treat the condition, according to a new study.
Researchers at Hong Kong Baptist University said Gouteng, a traditional Chinese herb used to treat hypertension, helped patients better communicate and made them less prone to depression and sleeping difficulties.
"There is no cure for Parkinson's right now, but the study showed Chinese medicine can help treat the disease," a university spokesman told AFP on Thursday.

Asians at the NYC Vegetarian Food Festival

The first annual New York City Vegetarian Food Festival was held at the Altman Building, April 3rd to a packed crowd. It was a celebration of healthy, sustainable, and 100% cruelty-free foods and living. We sampled bites from some of the city’s finest vegetarian restaurants and food companies, along with health and wellness vendors from around the country. Also included at the festival was the wonderful work of animal welfare groups at a variety of information tables.

APAs go to Washington for Hepatitis & Liver Cancer Prevention Rally

The Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO) and its partners convene today in Washington, D.C. to educate lawmakers and the public on the deadly impact of hepatitis B and hepatitis C. At noon, advocacy activities will culminate in the first national hepatitis and liver cancer prevention rally in Upper Senate Park, where hundreds led by the National Viral Hepatitis Roundtable (NVHR) will demand federal funding to eradicate these diseases that cause up to 80% of primary liver cancers and is more common than HIV/AIDS.
