About Me:

Yi Lin Hsu was born in Taipei, Taiwan. While she was a still in school, Yi Lin was approached by a teen magazine for a photo shoot and was quickly signed by a local modeling agency. All during this time, she designed many of her own clothes, jewelry, and bags as an outlet for her creativity.

Later her modeling career took her to Hong Kong and then New York. Both places exposed her to sophisticated styles and people that informed her creative nature and evolved her own personal style.

Over the last few years, Yi Lin has become inspired to move beyond fashion to art. While she still leverages her fashion background when choosing color combinations and mixed media, her art captures a playful, genuine innocence not unlike herself

Description:
some mediums are just meant to die and never experience a revival. Cassettes and cds seem destined to fall into this category. When I was packing for my third move in about 2years, I finally decided to go through all of my old cassettes and cds. i had a choice to make. Do i throw up my hands in defeat and give up all these previously cherished objects or do i make due and improvise a solution to give them new purpose?
It was there that i found inspiration as nostalgia for lost music technology and wonderful project ideas jumped out at me from deep within why not recycle cds and throwaway cassettes in to whimsical mixed media paintings

this way each time i looked at them it would definitely bring back good memories the 70's to 2010s, when cassette and cd was two most common formats for prerecorded music. Remember patiently rewinding cassettes just to listen to youre favorite track and hours spent making mixes for friends and lovers on blank tapes and cds. these objects were important embodiments of not only the music on them, but the craft/effort and emotions behind them . and now with the evolution of technology and
specially iTunes all this has changed the landscape how we access and share our music.

i am not so easy to let go of my favorite cassettes and cds, and instead of tossing them away, i hang them on my walls as part of my art. keeping those good memories alive.
