How to make-up just like this photo, Tang Wei

I assume that the key to Ms. Wei's make-up is as follows:

We interviewed Tang Wei at the Lust, Caution premiere. Here are some select questions.
Give us 3 words to describe Ang Lee: Principles, Never gives up, Determination.
Any actresses you admire? There are a lot of actors I can learn from. I like old actresses such as Greta Garbo. She is so gorgeous.

Face

Use a light liquid foundation, you can apply the foundation with your fingers, a sponge or a brush. Use a small amount of foundation and try to spread it all over the face evenly. Put concealer (1~2 shade lighter than foundation) under the eyes, T-zone and center of chin to enhance your skin and create a 3-dimensional face.

Set with a translucent loose powder using a big brush.

Eye

Use an angled brush to define the brow with a dark brown or charcoal powder. Don't make it too dark, keep it a natural tone.

On the eye lid, apply a light brown shadow on your crease sparingly, and then put sparkling pastel blue or purple eye shadow along the top of your eyes (start from the inner-corner of your eye to the outer-corner). Also apply the same color of shadow at the inner-corner of bottom of your eyes (about 1/4 inch). This color should be showing a little bit when you open your eyes. Outline the edge of the eyes along the lash line (top & bottom) with a black eyeliner pencil. (The inner sides of bottom eyes should be lined, too -- it's called inner-line) Apply black mascara on the lashes.

Cheeks

Apply a light pink or plum blush on your cheek. When you smile, you see the apple shape (round hill on your cheek) where the blush is supposed to be.

Lips

Pink but sheer (colorless) gloss.

Asian Smokey eyes

Hi Motoko,
I'd like to learn how to make soft smoky eyes on my Asian eyes with small crease. I adore olive and plum shades but it has to be soft because I'd like to make it up on daytime. Thanks!

Hi Stephanie,

Usually, smoky eyes are made by dark colors like black, charcoal, navy and dark brown. It is good that you like olive and plum color rather than dark color because if you use dark colors on your small crease, your eyes look smaller.

It is better to use lighter shades like olive, purple, or medium~light brown rather than black; moreover, use silky or shimmer type of shadows instead of matte. The silky/shimmer shadows make your eyes lighter and open your eyes. If your eyes are closer to the nose, then the inner- corner of your eyes (area side of your nose) should be lighter and then become darker toward the end.

In the daytime, you can use silky-olive shade, but apply it lightly all over your crease (the shade of silky shadows turns darker with layer applications). The plum shade is very good for daytime. Usually, smoky eyes have color on the bottom eyes, too, but if you think it is too much then you don't need to use liner and shade there.
