After the Wall Street Journal published their article on Harford Financial, I sent a reply that I thought may be helpful to some. The article essentially points out the danger insurers now face as their investment portfolios take hits from subprime-related securities or bonds that are, today, deemed worthless. Annuities That would be bad enough, but insurance companies involved in selling variable annuities will be held accountable for the promises made of providing consumers with a lifetime of income, regardless of the real, separate account values.
