Coalition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages HorseSense reports in their newsletter of 1/8/12 1/8/12:
WAR HORSE is playing in theaters all over the US. In NYC, the play is also at Lincoln Center. It is a powerful anti war and strong animal-human bond story. It shows the truth about our vile history with horses - how, despite their sensitive nature as prey animals, they were conscripted into service in the war because they had no choice as slaves. Over 300,000 were killed during WW1. And carriage drivers still think it is OK to exploit these gentle beings. This photo is of Bobby II Freedom by Jeffrey Anderson - NYC's own war horse. Bobby mane is actually darker and he looks very much like Joey in the film.
Some interesting articles about the movie.

Shed a tear for the real horses too - Spielberg's fictional War Horse is a tear-jerker. The continued suffering of discarded animals is a tragedy -- Vancouver Sun - 12/28/11
We are planning to flyer at either the Spielberg movie War Horse or the play at Lincoln Center. Please e-mail me at coalition@banhdc.org if you are interested in volunteering with us - or on your own in your own community.

You'll never feel the same way about horses again, if you haven't realized what great animals they are already. All New Yorkers should insist the carriage horses in NYC be phased out.
