Tofu was the main focus of Lee Anne's infused demonstration. The event was held by House Foods Organic Tofu (which is made with non-GMO soybeans!) The guests included a mixture of Culinary students, press, and fans who sat in the seats meant for cooking students in the extremely cleanly and television-worthy kitchen. The tasting was filled with savory and sweet dishes mixing influences from the Mediterranean with traditional Asian spices and ingredients. This was the idea behind Lee Ann's presentation.

Each Fashion Week in New York City, The Academy of Art in San Francisco selects a few students to come to fashion week to show off their talent. We always feature the Asian ones! I was intrigued by the cute, spunky Asian girl who was running around backstage but managed to have a cool demeanor. Her name is Jie Pan.

The renowned producer Bill Kong gave a friendly and informative interview about his new film Blood: The Last Vampire. The conversation took place over the phone, from Hong Kong! He is obviously super busy but was able to fit in a great conversation with Asiance Magazine not only about the recent film Blood (and the film’s beautiful actresses) but also his role as producer of such epic films as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero and his upcoming projects, which includes working with Zhang Yimou, director of the Beijing Summer Olympics.

In the independent crime film Off Jackson Avenue, directed by John-Luke Montias, actor Jun Suenaga (originally from Japan) shines as an interestingly portrayed and sensitive ‘hit man’. He plays a tough guy with a soft side, a criminal who is actually one of the good guys amidst a world of despicable crime. When I sat down with Jun at an East Village café, he was most certainly the opposite of his character. He arrived with his skateboard and laid back attitude, as friendly as ever- like an old friend.

It was like fate when Tania Gunadi won a green card lottery to move from Indonesia to the United States. When she first came to the US, the first thing she noticed was the way the L.A. freeways seemed so clean and magical. New to the language she managed to learn English quickly while working at a pizza place, and as luck would have it, she booked a part in a Disneyland commercial!

Unmistaken Child directed by Nati Baratz is the magical 4-year journey of a young Tibetan monk named Tenzin Zopa seeking to find his previous master’s reincarnate. It is a true-to-life documentary, following an outcome of events and is both intriguing and beautiful. The young monk ‘eventually presents the child he believes to be his master’s reincarnate to the Dalai Lama so that he can make the final decision.’ For more about the ending one will have to see the film!

Ziya Tong is a correspondent for this summer’s fast-paced season of Nova Science Now, which airs on PBS starting June 30th. She appears in three of the shows, which vary in ‘sizzling’ subject matter. When I spoke with her, she was friendly, cool and collected, yet extremely excited about all the adventures she had while filming the expeditions (such as getting up close and personal with cuddly walruses).

What an amazing lineup! Epik High, Korea's #1 hip-hop group chartered a world tour, hitting Japan, Korea and the United States. Our favorite, Far East Movement, joined Epik High on their US tour dates. Other acts that joined the tour were Beatbox DG, urban musician MYK and rapper/producer Kero One. We caught the tour as they made their way to the East Coast in NYC. See our video of the night A little bit about the artists: Epik High Epik High is without a doubt the premier hip hop group in Korea. Six years after their debut, Epik High's critically acclaimed album and track releases continue to top the charts and garner unanimous praise from both the music industry veterans and fans alike. Their lyrical ability, coupled with their social consciousness and a serious love for the craft, give the group unrivaled respect on the Korean music scene. www.mapthesoul.com Kero One Often compared to the likes of Common, Q-Tip and Kanye West, Kero One is a hip hop artist from the Bay Area and is the epitome of the self-made artist. After a long and arduous struggle, his first album was selected as Remix Magazine's "Best Hip Hop Album of 2006," while topping iTunes hip hop charts and garnering praise from artists like Will.i.Am and magazines such as Urb. What followed was work with hip hop legends - KRS-1, EPMD and Talib Kweli to name a few - which helped establish him as a contender on the hip hop scene. With the current release of his second album Early Believers, Kero One is fast becoming a world sensation. www.kero1.com MYK Also hailing from the Bay Area, MYK is a one-man musical powerhouse, performing as an MC, DJ, producer and instrumentalist. At a young age, he was the lead vocalist and MC for Weekend Sesh, a local band that specialized in hybrid hip hop. After the band parted ways, MYK moved to Seoul, Korea, where he was introduced to Tablo of Epik High. The two immediately connected and began writing music together. MYK is living in Korea, working on his debut album and also continuing to collaborate with artists in the US, such as Kero One, Jamie Jones of All For One and Klypso (now an engineer/producer at Aftermath). www.myspace.com/mykmusyk Without a doubt, Far East Movement was the performance of the night and it's great to see how quick and fast their fan base has grown on the East Coast. See our video with Far East Movement. Their FIRST time in NYC. www.fareastmovement.com

In 2008, Justin played Eric Yorkie in the film Twilight, based on the book by Stephenie Meyer.[2] Justin is currently filming New Moon, Twilight’s sequel in which he will reprise his role as Eric Yorkie. ASIANCE: Hi Justin, it’s so nice to be able to have another interview with you! Justin: Hey, yeah, hey how you doing?

Benson Lee is a Korean American director well known for the popular documentary Planet B-Boy which captures various break dancers around the world in an emotional and cultural journey behind the dancing. I actually spotted it on Netflix “Browse Instantly” a little bit before the interview and was very excited! It is definitely worth renting and increases in popularity every day!

What do you see in present day commercials or TV shows? You see stereotypes being portrayed to the extreme. These commercials, advertisements, and TV shows are such an influence on society, that Asian Americans most likely come across obstacles that stand in their way of pursuing their dreams.

Our goal is to inform people of these stereotypes and show people proof that most of these stereotypes are completely wrong. We're not saying these stereotypes aren't true but they definitely do NOT apply to everyone.
