Fashion — Designer Way Zen for JSong

This season, Way Zen was inspired by a walk she took in the city park during a snowy day. "New York only snowed once this season; I was so happy to be caught in it. I was drunk by the snow and dreaming of Snow Angels." She recalled.

This runway show revolved around a wintry world that is both fantastic and austere. The Snow Fairy appeared in hand-embroidered organic yarn dresses and sculpted flora skirts blossom with Winter Blooms. The collection was balanced with simple, streamlined shirts and signature “Origami – Geometry” hand folded cashmere coats.

Dating & Relationships — Love in a Leap Year

Yes, 2012 is a leap year, so we have an extra day to accomplish what we hope to get done this year, an extra day to appreciate what we already have. This extra day, February 29th, is also the back-up date [the “snow date”] for my book-signing talk, “Love in a Leap Year,” at the Wallkill River [NY] School of Art. Chosen by the lecture series director, the title has made me wonder: do we “fall” in love or do we “leap”? First, I fell. Twenty years later, I leaped.

Celebrities — Ayi Jihu - The Chinese Madonna

Born in the small village of Leibo, in the province of Sichuan China, Ayi has become China's foremost international Lady of R&B and the first Chinese R&B artist to truly find favor in the West. Dubbed the Chinese Madonna she has remained independent and built a following of millions worldwide. Her ability to crossover and reach so many people through her music, video, film and games has seen her become a cultural Ambassador for The United Nations and other global organizations.

Fashion & Beauty — Richard Chai Fall 2012

Model Liu Wen picked up her first opening slot of the season at Richard Chai, where models sauntered in oversized blazers and menswear tweedy coats on top of flowery chiffon palazzo pants.

More than 200 VIPs of the city’s finance, fashion, and business communities packed the Trump Plaza Penthouse Wednesday night to celebrate the launch of Indian jewelry and accessories designer Amrita Singh’s brand new home collection. Sponsored by Wells Fargo and hosted by South Asian Young Women Entrepreneurs (SAY WE), ‘The Amrita Singh Penthouse’ event showcased the designer’s hand-crafted, life-size and miniature, mosaic Buddha and Ganesh statues, along with special pieces of jewelry and accessories from Singh’s illustrious, decade-long career.

Dating & Relationships — The White Boy Speaks on Dating Asian Women - the 5 year update

Five years have passed since “The White Boy Speaks on Dating Asian Women.” I still get asked, as a white guy who still mostly dates Asian women, why I date Asian women more than any others. My tastes haven't changed but my views have matured.

I'm writing to follow up, share new views, and, I hope, increase mutual understanding. I still believe open communication helps people understand each other better.

Culture — The Year of Angry Birds

Maybe it’s the Asian competitive gene in me, but I can spend hours on a single Angry Birds level in order to achieve the elusive three stars. Sometimes I even flash my screen of completed levels to friends, beaming as if it were a perfect report card.

TV & Film — Filmmaker Vicky Shen

Vicky Shen received a B.A. in Film Production from the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Her advanced student film, "The Killing Seasons", which she wrote, directed and acted in, garnered awards at several film festivals, including the Tampere International Short Film Festival, and was a finalist at the DGA Student Awards.

Fashion — Male model Francis Lane

Two years ago, we met Francis at a Nylon Magazine party. We knew it was only a matter of time before he would start gracing the top runways for the top designers!

He has since shot the Gap Autumn 2011 look book and most recently the Tommy Hilfiger winter campaign. Editorial credits include Volt, Schon and Rodeo magazine. He has also walked for Y-3, Maison Martin Margiela and Loden Dager among many others

Celebrities — Legend Rapper Jin

Jin Au-Yeung aka Jin tha Mc was born in Miami, Florida, to Hong Kong Chinese immigrants.

Fashion — Designer Kevin Saer Leong

Kevin is currently the Senior Vice President Creative Director of Simmons Design Group. In this role, he oversees the design for all of Russell Simmons’s brands previously including Baby Phat, Phat Farm, Run Athletics, Simmons Jewelry Company, and as of current, Argyle Culture, American Classics and Atman. All of his work is done through his own design company, Black Bean Sauce.

Beauty — Let's talk Asian beauty

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to speak to Hollywood Beauty Specialist and beauty editor of Viva Glam Magazine, Katarina Van Derham, about Asian beauty. Katarina is a world re-known beauty specialist. When asked about her ideal concept of beauty, she stated, "I disagree with the belief that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I know many people may agree with this. But there is a science behind what is attractive. And what is attractive is beauty. I know the science behind it whereas many people in the beauty industry don't.

Culture — Atheism? No. Agnosticism? Formerly. Theism? Yes.

The young women who run threegirlsandamic.com, an Internet radio program, invited me to be a guest on their program about the rise of atheism among their generation of students. I did so on Sunday, 22 January, and thought afterwards that as they were interested in the topic, so might our readers at asiancemagazine.com. So, here goes.
