University Rutgers pushes for Asian American studies program

Protestors chanting “We are Asian-Americans, we will not stop the fight,” last week on the College Avenue campus were heard in School of Arts and Sciences Executive Dean Douglas Greenberg’s office, but were not greeted with a desirable response.

The march on December 7 to Greenberg’s office on 77 Hamilton St. was part of the Asian American Leadership Cabinet’s ongoing initiative for an Asian-American studies program at the University.

Greenberg said he recognizes the protestors’ concerns, but can only do so much under financial pressures.

Researchers at Joslin Diabetes Center have determined key differences between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in the Asian American population. This study, published today in PLoS ONE, identified ways to differentiate the types of diabetes, which can be clinically similar in young Asian Americans.

Japanese Goth band Rose Noire was formed by Louie (Vocal) and Jill (Violin) when they were students at the Tokyo National University of Fine arts and Music. Although their band may be labeled as Goth, their music incorporates a wide range of genres with an emphasis on classical.

Music Yukako Tani of YGA

Formed in 2008, YGA (Yoshimoto Gravure Agency) is a J-pop idol group consisting of 10 members (Tani Yukako, Hanano Yuuri, Hayashi Sanae, Sakurai Rika, Hinata Sayo, Misawa Kana, Kasuga Sayaka, Oomizo Shiina, Wasaki Nanami, and Kato Moemi. Every weekend, YGA runs a live show at Shinagawa Prince Theatre in Tokyo, Japan. Their single "Jounetsu Heroine" ranked in 5th on the Oricon chart.
