University 2011 Association for Asian American Studies Conference

The theme for the 2011 AAAS conference “Consuming Asian America” is inspired, in part, by the site of the conference itself—New Orleans, the city that measures the success of its Mardi Gras celebration by weighing the garbage collected the morning after and whose shopping and nightclub district for locals is called “Fat City.” They invite proposals to engage with all aspects of consumption, such as excess (after all, New Orlean’s tradition of Mardi Gras suggests an excess of consumption), labor material culture, technology, marketing, identity, assimilation, gender, popular cu

Career Top Five Jobs I’ve Done to Stay Alive

I’ve never been a waitress, hostess, bartender or any of the typical side jobs you’d expect an actor to have. This is partly because I’ve always been afraid of dropping plates on customer’s heads. But I’ve had an array of weird jobs to stay afloat when I was starting out. Here are a few:

Career Investing - Wait and See

Here are the highlights of this month’s investing article:

  • In May 2010, the European debt crisis, the feared slowdown in China, regulation in Washington and the Flash Crash drove markets down swiftly and harshly.
  • Going forward, much depends on whether the Debt Crisis in Europe can be contained, and whether China can prevent a burst of its own bubble. The US is hostage to events in Europe and China.

Beauty Five Makeup and Beauty Tips

When I decided to become an actor, I drove my beat-up Honda Civic from Texas to California in the 105-degree heat of July. If you saw photos from that trip (which you never will, thank God), you'd see me with huge false eyelashes, way too much eyeliner, frizzy pouffed hair (well, I did just drive from Dallas), cream blush, Lee press-on nails and an eye shadow color reminiscent of "The World of Suzy Wong."

Purty. Awful.

Since then, trial and error (and error) as I've prepared for thousands of auditions has taught me how to dismiss a lot of the makeup monkey business.

She also made it to the quarterfinals in the 2004 US Women's Amateur, and finished 4th at the 2004 Women's World Golf Team Championship.

Sun turned pro in 2005 and joined the Futures Tour, where she immediately made a big splash. She ended up making all 18 cuts and compiling 10 top tens during 2005. Thus, she hovered around the top five on the money list all year.

Culture Celebration honors Soldier diversity

This article was sent to us from Shamika Hill with the 367th/1st Infantry Division unit currently located in Southern Iraq. Best wishes to the men and women in Basra, Iraq!

There were many nations, many cultures, in one celebration honoring those who serve in and support the Army from the South Pacific regions, regardless of the generation they represent.
