TV & Film — Actor Doua Moua in Gran Torino

Gran Torino is an upcoming drama film directed by and starring Clint Eastwood. Eastwood stars as a racist Korean War veteran who catches a Hmong boy trying to steal his 1972 Gran Torino. The film features a predominantly Hmong cast and was shot in Detroit, a city with a high Hmong population.

Now more than ever in the world of business we are tuning into the top business channels hoping to receive some sort of relief or hint of optimism from the never ending bloodbath. Pensions, 401K's and stock accounts are a quarter of the value they once were a year ago. Is this the end of overpaid and underperforming employees who lived in their own self important world, where senior managers made multi millions in bonuses while their decisions to layoff a $35,000 per year "low level" employee didn't keep them up at night?

Talk about a stigma in the Asian community. I have an STD. I am forever tainted as a dirty whore, a dirty stupid whore, a stupid whore who has sex with a man unprotected. Even though he was tested and swore he was clean - “ I decided to have unprotected sex. But wait it gets better. My boyfriend and I were going out for a year and ½. It was 6 months into our sexual relationship when I decided I would have a protection free sexual relationship on one condition, he would get tested. Talk about a stigma in the Asian community. I have an STD.

Music — JAZMIN - The New Girls on the Block

If you haven't heard by now, the Khong sisters are the hot, new act in town. You may recognize them from MTV's "Top Pop Group," where they were one of the finalists on the show, and one of the finalists from NBC's "America's Got Talent". Individually, Nadia, Felicia, Celia, and Daria have personalities that are unique but together they form a bold, sweet and sexy musical force.
Being a triple threat - “ smart, talented, and beautiful - “ how could anyone not notice them? Here at Asiance we certainly did!

TV & Film — Twilight's Justin Chon

The 27-year old Justin Chon was so friendly, chill and enthusiastic in his interview. Maybe it had to do with the fact that he finally got his first vacation in three years after wrapping up two major films. You may recognize him from the recent vampire hit Twilight, as Eric Yorkie.

Odd. This month, the market seemed... well, calmer. Things weren't as crazy as last month, but we still had pretty big stuff going on. Perhaps we're used to crazy.

This month, Paulson reversed his position on the TARP (the Troubled Asset Relief Program, aka the rescue plan), saying that the government wasn't going to buy troubled assets from banks. That sent the Dow Jones skidding to 7552.29, the lowest close in six years. Things got so bad that the government had to step in and save Citibank with a $20 billion bailout. And the day after that, Paulson announced a new $800 billion rescue package.

So what does all this mean? We'll get to that, but if you've been reading this column, you know that I'm a big believer in first understanding how we got here. Usually, that can tell us a lot about where we are going. So next, a detour into the events of the last few months.
